This means customers and patrons across NSW can enjoy a seamless experience when entering businesses that require both a QR Code check-in as well as proof of vaccination.

This is a two-way win as businesses are set to benefit from the digital solution of all-in-one, saving time for employees who are on ‘marshalling’ duties.

Lizzie Renkert, co-founder of Paddington boutique, We are Kindred agrees. "I'm really excited by this initiative. It will make it a seamless process cutting out the clunky steps which both customers and staff are finding time-consuming, and at times confusing," says Ms Renkert.

Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said “This is an extra digital service to make life easier for the businesses and customers of NSW as we open back up. NSW is the first jurisdiction in Australia to roll out an integrated QR code solution for displaying vaccination status state-wide.”

“While integrating the COVID-19 digital certificate on to the Service NSW app will be optional, it will be the by far the easiest and quickest way to prove you’re fully vaccinated.”

Rolling out the integrated solution state-wide follows a successful pilot in the regional areas of Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga and Lismore, with clubs, aged-care facilities and taxis participating in the trial.

INTEGRATION INSTRUCTIONS

Here are the instructions on how to add your digital vaccination certificate to the Service NSW app:

Before you start, there are two important things you may need to do.

1.    Update your Service NSW app (the integration requires the latest version).

2.    Ensure your MyGov account is linked to Medicare.

Then follow these steps:

  • Download the Express Plus Medicare app on your phone and sign in with your MyGov account details.
  • Select Proof of vaccinations from Services.
  • Click View history.
  • Select your name, then View COVID-19 digital certificate.
  • Click Share with check in app (you may need to click back to the previous screen to see this option).
  • Choose Service NSW and follow the prompts.

More detailed instructions including a video are also available on Service NSW

Customers without a smartphone are able to prove their vaccination status by using a hard copy of their vaccination certificate. This can be printed from their Medicare account or they can contact Services Australia for a paper certificate.

Customers who are medically exempt will need to continue showing evidence of their medical contraindication.
