The state’s peak business organisation, Business NSW, is calling on the representatives of the Combined Rail Unions to go back to the negotiating table and work with the NSW Government to resolve ongoing industrial disputes ahead of several days of anticipated disruption to the greater Sydney train network.

“Thousands of workers are going to be stuck in the middle of the ongoing dispute between the Unions and the NSW Government and that will have a big impact on businesses across Sydney over the coming days,” said Daniel Hunter, CEO of Business NSW.

“So much work has been done at the negotiating table in good faith and now is not the time to throw it all away.

“Businesses across Greater Sydney are already grappling with a labour shortage, and intentionally disrupting the Sydney train network will only exacerbate a very challenging time."

“The message from the business community is for both parties to sit down and resolve the remaining issues so we can avoid disruption on our transport network and ensure that thousands of Sydneysiders can get to work and get home safely and on time.”

Mr Hunter said that at a time when businesses are struggling with staff shortages and higher costs of doing business, further disruption to their operations would be an unwelcomed and unnecessary extra burden.

“Businesses across Greater Sydney are already grappling with a labour shortage, and intentionally disrupting the Sydney train network will only exacerbate a very challenging time.

“Business NSW urges any workforce threatening industrial disruption to remember that it is the businesses and families of NSW who suffer most from this type of strike action,” Mr Hunter said.
